The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
Irish PM bailed. Good opportunity for Ireland to right the ship.

The Battle of Secessionville (or the First Battle of James Island) was fought on June 16, 1862, during the American Civil War. Confederate forces defeated the Union's only attempt to capture Charleston, South Carolina, by land. It's noted for the court martial of the Union Brig. Gen. Henry Benham for trying to take James Island, which was against the orders given.

A godsend assuming it survives the weight of a massive FAANG lawsuit.

I don't know about Amazon, but the other FAANGs are covered by California's longstanding noncompete prohibition. It's a good policy, but the FTC shouldn't be the entity trying to implement it. Can't imagine it survives.
Seems like noncompetes have been on shaky ground for awhile, but I'm not a lawyer.
I wonder if I can have multiple bullshit jobs in the same industry now.
Noncompetes in jobs where the "IP" is customer contact lists and not very remunerative were always BS. You can squint and it almost makes sense where real IP is on the line and this is the lazy approach to avoid potential litigation.
If someone makes <$100K and the role* is covered by a noncompete, that industry is parochial and needs to be btfo'd by the legislature.
*Californian here, so have no relevant experience. I'm sure those of you in more benighted states can provide examples.
Non competes cover the business from losing IP whether it is insight to how the former company tackled problems that only that company did or to protect the departed from stealing clients
i was involved in two instances where at one of my former jobs a recruiter copied the company database that she had access to and sent it to a different recruiting company in the hopes of getting a job there. but there is honor among thieves and that company called ours and let them know what was going on. that employee was taken to civil court and lost.
another instance where a recruiter did the same thing except started working on his own and not reporting it to the company. when it was found out he was taken to court for theft and lost (also of note he tried to implicate me that i helped him but that is another story)

Big AG set how much money on fire trying to make meat substitutes (beyond meat, etc) a thing? How is lab grown meat going to be price competitive with pasture raised beef in the foreseeable future?
