Did anyone more serious than Trump indicate what we intend to do in Afghanistan? Is this one of the situations that Trump thinks he can fix with negotiation?

It would be difficult for Trump to make it worse, but it seems like an area where Bannon would be a better advisor than McMaster. Fuck em, let it be Pakistan's problem.

Essentially he asked his staff to come up with a plan of action. He complemented then criticized Pakistan's efforts against terrorist groups, mentioned something about a relationship with India.

Mostly what he said was that they are not leaving Afghanistan anytime soon, that conditions on the ground will dictate what we do there (I took that to mean that military officials will dictate US troop commitment but I don't really know) He mentioned that timelines would not be issued publicly. So as I understand it, troops will be stationed in Afghanistan for the forseeable future. It's looking like he's going to have to start negotiating with Pakistan, because that wasn't a very friendly exchange.

Is this a Kelly or a McMaster or a Mattis thing? Very disappointing if Mattis is pushing this.

Same shit. New general, same approach, same clouded ignorant objective. While populations suffers, poppy grows, 90% of the world's heroin supply continues to be produced from Afghanistan, while the US suffers an opioid epidemic like never before.

CIA, US military, .....its just pain. And torture. And irrelevance.

It doesn't have to be this way.
