That's a great airport. And it's actually really in the city. Heathrow and Gatwick are in different counties either side of London. Almost two hours away.

It's getting more & more difficult to try and stay calm, to be honest. I'm from Belgium, with our capital now known as a 'hellhole' and although I can put my fears aside and continue to go out, go to football games, concerts, ... my wife can't. The last time we went to a concert, there was military outside to check everyone, and we stayed close to the exit the entire show. The city of Paris is a 2h30 drive from us, we've been there a lot and love the city. But since the attacks, she doesn't want to go anymore. We went on holiday to the USA & South-Africa this year, mainly to spend as much time as possible in the 'wild' nature and only really felt 'unsafe' at Brussels airport. We've been married for little over a year now but we're postponing starting with the whole kids-thing because she's just afraid. And we do our best to look at the big picture, and I've always been one to try and read up on and try to understand things, but still, once there's people involved you actually know, once your mother is stuck on the subway on the day of the Brussels attacks and you can't reach her for hours not knowing if she's safe, you stop being rational. My wife's also a doctor and has this reaction where she doesn't focus that much on the dead but rather on the injured. She pictures the pain, what she could do if she would be in that situation, how she would cope with the fear and the shock, if she'd be able to focus on her job, how the life of the victims will completely change due to the injuries, ... And everytime you think you get a little more relaxed, something new happens. Paris, Brussels, Nice, Berlin and the countless "little" attacks. Last night she came to me and asked "you've already seen what's happening in Berlin?", that's all I needed to know to realize she's back in panic modus and there's definitely not going to be a Christmas market for us. I just don't know what to tell her anymore. I want 2016 to end now, but I'm not sure 2017 will be better.

So there ends my personal side and now we can get back to blaming Bush, Blair, Sykes-Picot, islam, leftist apologists, extreme right populists, whatever side you're on & looking at video's from Aleppo that honestly break my heart.

Have a nice day, old friends.

We're going to win this, though Noone has the slightest idea 'what' we're going to win, and 'how' we're going to do it and who 'we' are. All they know is that we are going to win it. And the narrative is pretty close to "we're going to build a wall and they're going to pay for it".

Which is exactly what "they" want.

Edit: The optics of this are horrible for Merkel, she was at a celebration of migrants when the attack occurred.

Does Germany have a policy where they will only pay one ransom per citizen? Have they considered just not paying ransoms?

It's a shame the ones they stop don't get as much attention.
