ISTANBUL — Russia announced on Tuesday that its units were patrolling between the Turkish and Syrian militaries near the northern Syrian town of Manbij, in a sign that Moscow, a key ally of the Syrian government, was moving to fill a security vacuum after U.S. troops were withdrawn from the area.
A Russian Defense Ministry statement said that military police in northwestern Manbij were patrolling “along the line of contact between the Syrian Arab Republic and Turkey.” The statement said the Russian military was also “interacting” with Turkey’s government.

whoa. guess this is payback for sending proxies in to occupy the U.S. embassy? I think there was a comment from their Ayatollah the other day along the lines of 'you can'd do anything'. welp, guess he was wrong. odds this escalates seem very high. maybe the unintended consequence of Trump impeachment is going to be an unhinged trump authorizing war with Iran to save his skin.

i've been doing a lot of reading up on this guy, and apparently he is . . . er . . . was one of the most influential figures not only in iraq, but in the syrian war and the entire middle east in terms of shaping policy. this was a very, very big deal, and will likely be seen as an act of war by iran.

iran's back is to the wall because of sanctions. they have missiles that can reach europe, although i doubt they would launch them because european countries tend to be friendlier to Iran relative to the U.S.. But Iran showed they can attack Saudi Arabia, they have militias in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Palestine and can direct flare ups. They can also start trouble in the straight of hormuz again.
there are a lot of iranian citizens that want the US to attack Iran. They hate their government. But they are too weak to overthrow it. They wanted Trump/Bolton to invade.
we are fortunate to live in our little american bubble arguing over $190 NYE menus
god forbid iran direct a suicide bomber on US soil or something

where will the Democratic primary candidates stand on this one?
I would guess:
Biden: suggests should have consulted congress Bernie: says no blood for oil Warren: has meltdown at coatcheck stand, can't enter debate in time to respond Buttigieg: says he would have killed him with his bare hands instead Yang: proposes robot drone takeover of all humanity to avert all such type issues in the future Klobuchar: references that she is from the midwest (x12)

Please. Pete would never bloody his white-collar hands like that, he'd just make sure the cleanup job went to a blue chip contractor for double the cost.
