Ruddo, you fought for the American Flag. How do you feel about such a treasonous flag being flown on your soil?
Honestly? I just associate it with stupidity. If it truly represents heritage, it represents a dark time in that heritage, where you didn't want to be part of this great nation and where you wanted to own slaves. Anyone who can't see that because their great great great great granddaddy lost his life fighting under that flag is just blind to the real world. You guys wanted my stance, well there it is. But the whole thing doesn't affect me in any way. Sure I may feel bad for people who just don't get that their "heritage" is a common symbol among hate groups that also use the swastika, but it doesn't anger me, just bewilders me.
Isn't heritage in this context synonymous with racism? I know it was during the civil rights movement in the 60's. "Segregation because heritage" was like a mantra at the time, i wonder how that could have changed since.

Another thing that cracks me up about all of the "heritage" people and the flag coming down at the State house: That flag hasn't been flying there since the Civil War. It has only been flying there for 54 years. So don't act like it is some unbroken chain of heritage back to the civil war. That flag wasn't even the real Confederate Flag.

What gets me about all this is that the confederate flag didn't even fly on state grounds until the 60's, right around the time of civil rights. They sent a clear message what they thought the flag meant.
If they decide to build a monument, or some museum, then by all means, fly all the flags of the war, including the various confederate ones. Otherwise, there really isn't any place for it.
Does this mean the NAACP will now lift their boycott of SC.
I hope so, because I want the ACC Basketball and Baseball tournament to come to Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and Greenville.
For those that don't know, the NAACP has a boycott in SC, and other institutions acknowledge this boycott. The NCAA is one of these institutions, therefore no ACC tournaments in the state of SC.
Also, the NBA recognizes the boycott and the Knicks do not hold their summer camp in Charleston anymore.

I read somewhere yesterday that they are going to lift the boycott. But I don't remember where I read it, sorry.

I did some searching on the archives and found some interesting threads on this very subject.
First, 11 years ago there was a high schooler that wore a Confederate gown to prom. Excellent former posters such as PD, davo and deathbyflannel had some interesting thoughts in it:

I've never met anyone displaying the Confederate flag that I enjoyed speaking with for more than a few minutes. I don't know if displaying the flag is racist, but I'll bet you 99% of the people who display it are.
I no longer doubt the racism inherent in the symbol, but that's a comment that I don't regret a decade out!
