Well loads I’d imagine.
Gas planets are all over the place and we’ve a limited periodic table of (known) elements n all that

How they can tell what gases they are from millions of light years away is what I can never understand.

This page gives an overview. Basically, they’re reading the light of the planet’s star as it passes through the atmosphere, using that to figure out the chemical composition.

This is unbelievable.

“The matter being pulled in toward this black hole, in the form of a disc, emits so much energy that J0529-4351 is over 500 trillion times more luminous than the Sun [1]. “All this light comes from a hot accretion disc that measures seven light-years in diameter — this must be the largest accretion disc in the Universe," says ANU PhD student and co-author Samuel Lai. Seven light-years is about 15 000 times the distance from the Sun to the orbit of Neptune.”

They should have tried turning it off and back on again.

It’s 24 billion kilometres away and only has a 68k computer. That’s little more than a calculator. It’s beyond impressive.

I need to learn how radio works. 22 hour turn around time between message sent and message received. That’s just insane. It’s 24 billion km away ffs

Yeah I was shocked at how fast radio waves move and the distance being so far it takes almost two days to send a message and get a reply.

Will remind you all again there’s an absolutely incredible documentary about Voyager called ‘the farthest’. It’ll blow your mind. Do look it up. Inspirational stuff.
