Is ‘hole’ a misnomer?

Aren’t they just super dense objects as with a sun having a massive gravitational pull getting more and more dense as they pull more everything in?

Basically universe cancer

The ‘hole’ aspect always confused me

I thought you could come out the other side though? Theoretically.

There is no other side though

It’s just a massive ball of matter. It’s not a hole at all
A hole goes somewhere. These don’t. It’s just a huge lump getting bigger.

Science writer Marcia Bartusiak traces the term "black hole" to physicist Robert H. Dicke, who in the early 1960s reportedly compared the phenomenon to the Black Hole of Calcutta, notorious as a prison where people entered but never left alive.

The term "black hole" was used in print by Life and Science News magazines in 1963, and by science journalist Ann Ewing in her article "'Black Holes' in Space", dated 18 January 1964, which was a report on a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science held in Cleveland, Ohio.

In December 1967, a student reportedly suggested the phrase "black hole" at a lecture by John Wheeler;[54] Wheeler adopted the term for its brevity and "advertising value", and it quickly caught on,[56] leading some to credit Wheeler with coining the phrase.

The Black Hole of Calcutta sounds a lot cooler when you leave out that its entire reputation stems from a single incident.

I'm so depressed right now. Born too late to explore this earth, too soon to explore the universe.

As underwhelmed as I was about the initial picture, I am in awe of the size.
