The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore was struck by a cargo ship and collapsed causing the entire structure to break apart. NBC News' Tom Costello reports on the details of the disaster as a massive search and rescue operation is underway.

How the fuck does this happen? Captain must have been asleep or intoxicated. Authorities have said sonar indicates vehicles on the bottom. Very sad indeed.

Oh yikes, I didn't notice that. I think I heard on the news this morning they did pull two people out of the water at some point over night.

So far the story is the motor lost power and the ship did alert the authorities about it
