Quote:
"Two programs — Medicare and Medicaid — are expected to account for 86% of all estimated HHS spending in FY2019," it said.

In the first eight months of this fiscal year, which began in October, HHS spent $834,346,000,000, according to the Monthly Treasury Statement for May. That is up from $731,724,000,000 in the first eight months of last fiscal year.

Through all of fiscal 2018, HHS spent approximately $1,120,500,000,000 — or $93,375,000,000 per month.

Through this full fiscal year, according to the estimate published in the Monthly Treasury Statement, HHS will spend approximately $1,230,273,000,000 — or $102,522,750,000 per month.

In May alone, according to the Monthly Treasury Statement, HHS spent $146,552,000,000.

That equaled about $4.9 billion per day, or $196.98 million per hour, or $3.28 million per minute.

It's time to start eating old people.

I mean, We (Congress) could enact a law stating that the US HHS will negotiate drug pricing for Medicare and Medicaid.....

but, that would probably effect a few reelection campaigns....

That'd be a great place to start. But Billy Tauzin probably wouldn't like that very much. :shake:

The Market has been fluctuating a lot lately but definitely trending down since the end of July. Down over 700 at the moment.

Ugh.

On one hand you could argue that the Fed is being forward-looking instead of backward looking unlike the summer and fall of 2008, but on the other man I really, really, really hope that they aren't caving to Trump. It's plausible that they're not--his trade policies really are disastrous--but the optics of this aren't good.

Maybe - just maybe - we should rethink this 'entirely different ideals are in charge of the entire government every four to eight years" thing we have going.

Hugely reductive statement but I gotta say this bullshit from both parties every time they get their guy in power is annoying. Is it even feasible to remove political appointees from top government positions?

WaPo: Europe is quietly drifting toward a recession. It might be bad news for us all.

as a whole they have been kind of muddling along the border for the last few years. part of the issue is German reluctance to use fiscal policies to stimulate the economy. they have a lot of potential firepower but due to a scarred memory of hyperinflation problems (very) long ago, running deficits for the sake of promoting growth is something they are reluctant to do. the rest of europe being economically exposed to them to a meaningful degree ends up bearing the brunt of that choice

how can you run out of money if it's just numbers in a computer?

I should have expected that, but it's a serious question.

I think you are confusing the nominal value of fiat currency with its purchasing power in the global market.
