Guys, guys Ryan Adams is sorry and this time is for real. And he has a lot of new music too.
He's one I'm really mad about personally (all of the creeps in this thread make me mad in general). I liked Ryan's music so much, but can't listen to him now.

And as we all know, if anything's going to stop Ryan Adams from releasing music it's a few dozen people arguing about politics on a Pearl Jam message board.

I just find it exhausting that a guy can basically go into hiding for a year and a half, release a possibly heartfelt apology in hopes of being allowed to continue his life and mere hours after releasing said statement the press has already collected all the quotes from the women he has harmed outlining their grievances about not being personally contacted or whatever, as if the dork from Dawes wouldn't be pissed if Ryan tried to call Mandy Moore up and say my bad.
My expectations must've been pretty low for Ryan, because his issues haven't really impacted my enjoyment of his music at all. The Old 97s were writing songs in the 90s about what a douche he was, so it shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone.

There's nothing stopping him from continuing his life, from putting music up on bandcamp right now. As always seems to happen, we're confusing "I want freedom of speech and expression" with "I want to be a gigantic douchebag for years on end, suffer zero professional or personal ramifications and get everything I think I'm entitled to."
Of course. The guy is insufferable and always has been. The purity gauntlet has been laid before him now though, in the year 2020 of our Lord, for some reason.
I agree that cancel culture is toxic. Anyone that has done the smallest negative thing in the past, and it gets blown up in the news, and they are harassed on social media. Yet, it’s probably more right for the guilty guys in this thread, than in most other circumstances. For instance, I’m sure no one here wants Bill Cosby to go on a comedy tour.

RM cancel culture has already chimed in though
His statement did not evoke sincerity to me and he has been an insufferable douche for most of his career, if the words are true he set the bar higher so yeah, get to work. I didn't cancel him or whatever the fuck that is but his words aren't exactly gospel.

Actually you shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion about a recording artist at all.

The vibe here is "Ha! Nice try, but this doesn't meet my purity standard, and since I only listen to Chris Cornell anyway, this dude can stay in the well."

Sure but who cares. No one here is trying to get him removed from the radio, dropped by his label, or banned from touring. There are a million musicians I'll never be a fan of for more or less ideosyncratic reasons, ranging from "I don't like that music" to "I can't be bothered to even know who that is," so it's a huge stretch to say that RM is trying to "cancel" him by simply adding him to the pile of folks you don't pay attention to.

You're gonna crash on the barrelhead son You'll regret the things that you done One of these days you're gonna rue All the messed up things you do
You're gonna die the way you live And the way you drink you're like a river Bound for falls and not much fun You're gonna crash on the barrelhead son
You're gonna wake up in your shoes No one you love a'watching you You'll hate your face when the morning shines On the mirror frame and your guilty mind.
You're gonna crash on the barrelhead son And do the walls know what you done? And do they listen in on you? Do the walls know what you do?
You're gonna wake up in your shoes No one you love a'watching you You'll hate your face when the morning shines On the mirror frame and your guilty mind.
