None of the nearly 10 pastors reached by phone said the allegations of sexual misconduct changed their views about Moore. Several said the allegations made them more proud to vote for the former judge.
Repeatedly, the pastors attempted to discredit Moore’s accusers in personal terms, with some dismissing their emotional stories as “crocodile tears” and “fake news.”
“I don’t know how much these women are getting paid, but I can only believe they’re getting a healthy sum,” said pastor Earl Wise, a Moore supporter from Millbrook, Ala.
Wise said he would support Moore even if the allegations were true and the candidate was proved to have sexually molested teenage girls and women.
“There ought to be a statute of limitations on this stuff,” Wise said. “How these gals came up with this, I don’t know. They must have had some sweet dreams somewhere down the line.
“Plus,” he added, “there are some 14-year-olds, who, the way they look, could pass for 20.”

Interesting bit from an interview with Sarah Silverman:
Quote:
I mention a line she used in her Jesus is Magic tour in 2005: “I was raped by a doctor. Which is, you know, so bittersweet for a Jewish girl.” She looks panicked when I mention it, and replies quickly: “Comedy is not evergreen! There are jokes I made 15 years ago that I would absolutely not make today, because I am less ignorant than I was. I know more now than I did. I change with new information.”
For better or worse, what was once comedy is now forever gone.

Everything in that quote can be applied to Franken as well.

So, with the sheer amount of people getting burned on their conduct, it is interesting how Trump managed to walk between the raindrops. Is it the sheer amount of craziness he offers on a daily basis clouding the issue, an unwillingness by Republicans to deal with their own, or just low expectations of him on the part of the country (akin to no one really caring that he's corrupt in a way that might sink other politicians). I feel like some mix of all these is probably the right answer, but still important to consider.

I don't know if I buy this. People have been bemoaning how political correctness is killing comedy for decades, but at the same time it seems hard to argue there aren't plenty of options for great comedy, whether scripted or stand up. I'm not an expert in it by any means, but it doesn't really feel like we're in a comedy dry spell.

Enough people believe that liberals would lie about sexual assault in order to stop Trump that it never stuck. Also Rolling Stone UVA. Also Bill Clinton. Also, there are women that willingly trade sex for power. So what trump said on that access Hollywood tape probably has some level of truth to it.

Much of it depends on who your tribe is. If you've spent decades creating the outrage culture that is now consuming you, it's a lot harder to defend yourself. You see how quickly your allies disperse when they get attacked for their hypocrisy (Lena Dunham).
These half-assed apologies/defenses are fairing poorly in the court of public opinion. Unequivocal denial is still probably the best way to go.

think so? I Do they even make comedy movies anymore? I don't think it has much to do with political correctness, but comedy seems to be in a slump lately. And several comedians have complained about it.
I mean, sure comedy isn't going to die anytime soon, but puritanism is definitely ascendant, in the mainstream at least. Luckily, we on the fringes still have our sweet, sweet memes.
