An extended era of liberalism brings significant reforms to a country, the country then backslides into xenophobic and nationalistic conservatism, and dumbasses who didn’t pay enough attention to see any of it as it happened suddenly discover the country and go “wow, based on what I’m seeing right here and now, this nation achieved liberal ideals with none of our organized liberal pressures or effort! The feminists must be the problem!”
Denmark still gets called out as an example of utopian liberalism, but in the last five years it has begun re-education programs for immigrants (in neighborhoods the government calls ‘ghettos’), debated establishing an island camp to keep refugees out of society entirely, and spent several years with the highest prevalence of physical and sexual violence against women in all of Europe. In a 2010 survey, 71% of polled Danes agreed that the "provocative behaviour of women" was the primary cause of violence against women.
