The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
Silver lining if any hopefully this sees the current or next administration start to fix Americas infrastructure. Watched a thing about the rail network a while back and it’s falling apart and a miracle stuff like this doesn’t happen all the time with trains.
Ok yes to addressing infrastructure … but this incident, I’d argue, is not related at all. A huge ship crashed into a bridge.
And the design of that bridge wouldn’t see it built today as it wouldn’t be able to deal with such a collision. Mordern bridges would easily.
Ship couldn’t have been going at any speed at all. Just the sheer weight of it took it out.
I don't know. Sounds made up to me. I am [gags a bit] with Bammer.
You can’t have a metal frame bridge which is basically a giant mecanno set over the busiest port in America when it has 200,000 ton ships coming in and out every few hours. Who knew?
What do you make the bridge out of? Unobtanium? Nah, truss bridges are fine, they'd just have big concrete and rock barriers around the bride supports so ships run into those rather than the bridge.

If any of the crew have a couple of tons of coke stashed among that cargo I’d say they’re shitting right now. That’s if they haven’t already made for the Canadian border.

It’s Baltimore yo
Yeah, good thing there isn't any place around the ship at 1:30 in the morning to dump it.

I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone here that while B and I may have equal disdain for one another’s worldview, I will very gladly and openly acknowledge and even celebrate the things we agree on. Without gagging. Because I am open minded. And I realize there’s more that binds us than separates us. And I am a better person.

Building bridges rather than burning them.
A rare moment of maturity and hands across a divide. Well done bammer

Are you saying new bridges would stand up to that behemoth ramming into them? I find that hard to believe.

If there's a lobbyist for tug boat manufacturers, they are super excited about all the possible new mandates that should be coming down the pipe.

Now there is reporting that the crew issued a mayday, and the bridge ended up being closed off. Unfortunately not in time for some of the cars on the bridge right when it was hit, but it helped keep more off of it in the moments that followed. I feel bad for the victims here but as someone said earlier, imagine if this was during rush hour.
