now that i've had a minute to think about it, it probably could hurt. especially, if we go around hit each other with mallets and frying pans, and dropping anvils on one another.
still...i like the idea of this party.

Just make the Senate way less important and the House way more important and you could see some third parties start to slip in and eventually be viable alternatives in years when the Ds and Rs are messing up (every year). Or: The US is so big and diverse you could easily have regional parties that don't even try to appeal to a national audience. New England Conservatives and Weird Mountain State People could do great. Having only 100 seats so every seat in the Senate being high stakes doesn't really allow many opportunities for third parties to sneak in. I guess it also doesn't work in the US because a strong third party would tend to take more from one of the major parties and really throws a wrench in the gears of our all-or-nothing Presidency. I want a parliament, that'd be fun

Third parties emerge, one of the major parties absorbs their more popular positions, the third party fades away. Parties in the US are fundamentally different than in parliamentary systems and each of the two main parties is more of a coalition than a party in the European sense. Thanks and have a great day everyone.

Also, the best response I’ve seen was “you mean a third way?” Kind of on the nose.
