Why is it always the most strident moralists that give not the slightest thought to where their morals come from? Religious people have a built in excuse, but the atheist argument of "it's called being a decent person!" is lame as fuck.

This is something I think about. I am now against stealing even though I took a few things as a child. I suspect it was mostly laziness and impatience. Of course my mother would have bought me a highlighter or an action figure but I would have to wait until a weekend or something. And keep nagging her. No, it was just easier to steal and hope the other kid wouldn't notice or tell their parents.
But now stealing is wrong. But...stealing something essential because you lost your job and have a baby at home? Seems okay.
I do mostly believe a person has a right to use deadly force to protect their property(and themselves of course). Although I would probably not use force with regard to property. That probably is a statement on my personal economic situation.
So I probably think of myself as situational.
One thing I think about is whether so many humans were really meant to live to 75-90 years old? Would we have "better" morals if we only lived to around 45? (Life is so short, let's be kind and decent to our fellow human)? Or would they be worse?
