Want them to change? I mean if they want to. Should they? Probably if they want to be healthier and improve their chances of living longer but if they derive their joy from food and are willing to live with the health consequences then vaya con dios.

For the vast majority of people being fat is like being an alcoholic. It starts out as a choice to eat too much (or poorly) or to drink too much. After that, some people get addicted to it. We have tons of laws regarding drinking, including it being a finable offence to be drunk in public. You can get fired at work for showing up drunk, even if you can still do your job. In both cases there are steps you can take to address your addiction but choose not to.

It’s the end of the month - now imagine police officers waiting outside the Olive Garden to ticket all the folks that really got bottomless breadsticks and ate their whole mega portion of pasta. Lord knows I’d be in cuffs.
