I'll be generous and assume this just means the passenger vehicle fleet (for recruiters and travel and whatnot). This is still a pretty crazy timeline. They wouldn't go with Tesla seeing as they're non union, but does anyone else other than the Koreans have battery production capacity to make this happen?

I don’t see production capacity as an issue: if there are contracts in place to fill the orders, then the capacity logistics will get sorted out. I think the limiting factor is downstream lithium sourcing and processing, which is largely reliant on China. The “lithium triangle” around Bolivia could maybe ramp up processing with US support?

I wonder how the broke, underfunded US military could possibly help.
Replacing (mostly domestically sourced) petroleum with (almost entirely foreign sourced) battery cells does not in fact make the military more resistant to supply chain disruptions.
There's no large scale initiatives to start mining the raw materials domestically so what are we doing?

we def don't need this kind of clown show bullshit out there misleading the public about the limits of EVs
meaning
there are current limits
and this kind of crap implies there are not limits
there are limits right now
they cannot do the same things as high power combustible engines
for military craft
or industry
i am all for green energy, development, and subsidy
but not greenwashing
not propaganda
not inflated expectations
i would rather the ice caps melt and we are able to prevent vladimir putin from raping every ukrainian woman than save a few polar bears and see his seed multiply across the grainfields of ukraine

What was the timeline for the contract review for the Dodge Status fleet in the late 90s/ early 2000s? That was for an extant product with a mature supply chain. We going to do that for EVs in the next 6 1/2 years?

It's not just the battery production, EVs are heavy, have modular engines, and have short range relative to gas engines. They need charging infrastructure. Storage infrastructure. They need retrained mechanics and new tooling at maintenance centers. Plus the parts. Seems like the military should be the last to get them.

I don't think we're using our military vehicles to prevent Vladimir Putin from raping every Ukrainian woman.

you clearly didn’t read the recent NYTimes article on the Minecraft data leak
this is basically the primary utility of the HIMARS system
we use satellites to track putin’s weiner and then Ukrainian field personnel call the US to confirm coordinates before launching deterrence strikes

Typical US intelligence: spending hundreds of millions and collecting no hard data
