I'm actually not totally against violent protest, as long as its targeted correctly. I more or less think burning down that Minneapolis police precinct was fine. It's when they move on to burning small business, blocking traffic, attacking random people, looting just to get free shit, ACAB bullshit, etc. that I start calling for camps to put them in. And most of the rioting in the pacific northwest has nothing to do with George Floyd and everything to do with ideological brainwashing, so of course I'll say fuck those guys.

Allowing the protestors to burn that police station was what set the cultural and behavioral precedent for everything that followed.

What are your top five police policy and policing standard changes would like to see?

Disciplinary Records available via FOIA.
Body cams not controlled by the officer and available via FOIA.
Elimination of qualified immunity.
Elimination of civil forfeiture.
Citizen board with authority to discipline, suspend, and fire that reviews complaints of excessive force.

1,2, and 5 would need the acquiesence of the police union. How do we get these things into union contracts in the face of intransigent unions?

Maybe if police departments started getting refunded?

Rule changes under threat of mass layoffs sounds like something that might garner sympathy from other public sector unions.

Continuing to murder unarmed citizens with impunity sounds like something that might garner sympathy from the voting public.

i know... you're kinda right... i was thinking about that the other day.... when it happened we were all like 'yes, fine. that one is justified'

and instead of that being it, it was just the beginning...

Well, I’m guessing they would prefer misdemeanor citations over the felony charges they are dealing with but no biggie.

all we did was break through an iron gate and with a sign that said private property en route to intimidating a politician inside their home!

i mean come on!

America is a free country!

we should be able to do those things without consequence!

what are these 'deterrents' you speak of!

Must hell suck being made to feel nervous inside your own gated community. The nerve of those protesters!

Could be worse though... You could be black and minding your own business just walking home from the shops and have some random person call the cops on you because you look "suss".

I will never understand America. And I don't really think I particularly can be bothered trying to that much anymore.

Like I said, I don't know that I'll ever understand the USA. That's fine. I'm sure you don't understand me either.

Also I love the disengagement in this thread by our progressive/leftist brethren so they never have to ask themselves:

No one has ever thought that there weren't absolute fuckwits at both ends of the spectrum.

What saddens me the most is how catastrophically divided the US seems, and it's along political lines of all fucking stupid things.

And worst of all, your leadership is actively agitating for more division. Sad.

I read an article in The Guardian about how Australia treats aborigines like garbage and have little moral high ground on which to criticize America because Australians still treat aborigines like garbage
