We are experiencing a real dearth of visionary politicians at the moment. Right now the quality of political discourse is at an almost all time low.

Sweet Jesus, he's the Fixer.
"I've fixed it; I'm a fixer," Mr Pyne said in an infamous interview with Sky News' David Speers. "I've fixed it by funding it in another way, which you'll find out about in the budget."

I think the last 6-8 years of Australian politics have been a complete joke. Too many fucking leadership spills for one thing, and the idiotic moves that the Gov. makes (even state) cost us billions. Need I mention east-west link? Horseshit.

Plus short term thinking and policy just to get into or stay in power. Where the hell will our transport systems, our schools and hospitals be in 20 years. The last 10 years should have been a time of reaping rewards during the mining boom, reducing deficit and being prepared now to invest in the infrastructure of the future. Instead of being able to take advantage of really low interest/borrowing rates and investing, we are dealing with this short sighted bullshit.

Wind power generated 140% of Denmark's power for a short period of time. They normally rely on supplemental hydro and nuclear power from their neighbors.

Oh yeah but at this point we need to harvest as much environmentally friendly energy as possible, especially here in Australia. Our government seems to be running and hiding from this issue.

Couldn't you all just fill the middle of the country with miles and miles of solar panels?
Mon July 13, 2015 2:46 am
Solar panels, wind turbines. There's so much that could be done but our government deem them ugly. So therefore we keep coal stations and hydro plants.
I saw a doco on a US city (can't remember which) a few years back who install turbines similar to wind turbines in their harbour/river. The flow created a heap of energy.
When I was in Denmark I saw the coast as descended and the sight was great, not ugly at all.

We've had a debate about putting wind turbines off the coast of cape cod in massachusetts for decades now. The people against the idea are pretty much just the rich folk with coastal cape cod property worried about their view.
