Slightly NSFW stuff in sidebar, it is the dailymail after all:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5955289/Newspapers-run-IDENTICAL-letters-slamming-Trumps-Supreme-Court-pick.html

At least they changed who allegedly wrote each one.

"Mystery," they say? Someone put the letter on-line and said, "send this to your local newspaper." I don't think you need to be Sherlock Holmes for that one.

If the court is intended to be (somewhat) representational of the country, then the coming polarized bench looks about right.

These left/right charts always are unable to accurately place Thomas. There have been some cases in which he reaches a "left" result that get balanced out when he fires off a solo dissent or concurrence in the judgment that's coded as being further to the "right". Someone like Alito is much more consistently right ruling even though he doesn't write separately as much as Thomas.

I'm hoping we get a 5-4 ruling from Thomas + the Democratic appointees that either strikes down or curtails civil asset forfeiture--that ought to really scramble these models. That's the rare issue where the far left and far right agree, but the squishy middle of the Court like Kennedy or O'Connor would disagree.

It’s interesting that a Supreme Court candidate can be above water in the polls and also be historically unpopular as a nominee.

Who doesn't love judges? There's a whole book in the bible just dedicated to them.

which justice would you like to bang most?

roberts is dreamy, and seniority turns me on; but gorsuch has that 'new guy' rebel to him which i find irresistable

see, this is why we need pollster rights

i can't adequately assess this issue without a poll

it's just too difficult to keep a manual tally with all these responses coming back

Is there a conflict among district courts regarding civil asset forfeiture coming up? Is that too much to hope for?

I'm disheartened to hear that Kavanagh is weak on some aspects of the 4th, but I'll take him versus the likely alternate.

I personally look forward to the first orthodox christian supreme court justice.

I mean we did have a remarkable streak of an all Catholic and Jewish Supreme Court going there for awhile.

Please. I don’t want this guy on the court, but there is something like 300+ cases to judge him on. Performance art falsely creating a hope that you can stall until the election is the worst kind of disrespectful politics there is.

spoke with a friend last week who clerked in a federal appellate court before her current legal/gov't gig, and she said the common reading amongst her colleagues of Kavanaugh's "settles law" statement is that he's open to letting states and/or the fed dismantle abortion access through other measures that don't interfere with Roe directly.

You feel that majority document withholding for a Supreme Court nominee, insistence on pre-submitted questions, and refusal to delay a few days so people have time to read yesterday’s dump is, therefore, not the worst kind of disrespectful politics there is.
