I’m pretty certain it won’t come to pass, to be honest, but for him to look at the situation in Florida and come up with this *at all* is crackers. I’m sure this effort will damage their preparedness to deliver the full year at a distance, too.

Trump made it pretty clear today what he expects--Florida will not be the last GOP-controlled state to enact this policy.

Good lord
It’s going to happen in TN, as well. The wife was at a thing tonight and other than her, all the parents are going to pull their kids from public schools if they have to wear a mask to school. She said one dad even called the county mayor right then and gave him what for. The county mayor then posted on FaceBook how we can all rest easy because as long as he’s in office we’ll never be under orders to wear a mask.

I do think basically every plan made in July is going to have to accommodate itself to the reality of August.

I guess I come to RM for updates about my job now.
It's hard to imagine this actually coming to fruition, especially as cases explode down here, but still.

Most of our states seem to have this under good control at the moment - few daily cases, almost exclusively via incoming travellers, all straight to quarantine etc. In my home state of WA they are seriously considering allowing a full 60,000 of us to watch our local football derby (but I actually doubt that will happen - possible we'll do it at 50% capacity though). Me myself, I'll watch from the couch thanks, but its nice that the confidence is there to do this based on the numbers.
One state however (Victoria) has recently spiked to 100+ new daily cases over the past week or so. They just made the decision today to lock the capital city down for the next 6 weeks - no leaving the house except for work, food and exercise, enforced social distancing etc.
By acting early we have been able to maintain our ability to track and trace, and this has proven imperative. Turns out once cases get above 50 per day for a few weeks we simply haven't got the resources to track and trace effectively, so acting early to shut things down was our only option. Victoria realises they face the same situation again and have once again acted in the only way they can to keep control.
I'm very glad that our Australian politicians never treated this thing as a political item and because of that I am quietly confident that we will be able to ride this out in some controlled fashion without losing all our liberties (and marbles) until a vaccine is found. And a vaccine will be found, I'm sure. Even if it turns out to be an annual shot, I'm gonna keep on believin'.
