Kid in my kid’s class has a sister with covid so now we’ll probably have to get our kids both tested before they can go to school next week fuck this shit
Aren't you in Seattle? Mask aren't required at school?
Yes masks are required in school but that doesn't change anything. They are forcing tests if there's any reported "exposure" regardless of symptoms.
If the neighbor kid's mom reports exposure I might burn their house down.

I get Trag's angle on this one. That's a pretty upsetting photo. I guess I just regard this thread as already being a pretty big bummer zone, plus I'm not a parent, so it didn't really register with me that way at first.
That fucking dead fox came out of nowhere and as far as I'm concerned a ban is still in order

That photo and caption did hit pretty hard, but while we still have people saying shit like 99% survival rate, bad flu etc... I feel that the upsetting posts should stay.
Couldn't give a damn about that fox. Nature's a bitch, sometimes you're the river, sometimes you're the fox

I took some time to consider this discussion and, ultimately, came to the following conclusion: I disagree that it is healthy to any discussion of a public event that carries a human toll to protect ourselves from the humanity OF that human toll. This isn’t a blood smeared fetus in a pan…its not even the Falling Man photograph…it’s a picture of a child receiving hospital care, not especially different from hundreds of such photos that have appeared in articles talking about child cancers or other health care issues during our lifetimes.
I also, like many of you, have lost several family members to COVID…including one who was exposed by someone who lied about getting tested and, when confronted with the cost of their negligence, reportedly responded with “Well he was fat. When I got it, it was just a cold.” So I find it especially hard to say “direct exposures to the suffering that case numbers represent may need to be nestled or tempered to avoid causing pain, but people responding flippantly with the exact language that for some of us is associated with direct personal and traumatic loss is not.”
I’m not saying that dismissive language should be filtered or spoilered (I don’t think it should). I’m saying I have a hard time with an approach that says one traumatic post warrants being couched but not the other…that, in a pandemic that has affected people on this board directly, painful awareness of suffering has share-ability limitations, but painful dismissiveness does not.
But obviously I see the earnestness of trag’s reasoning, too, or I wouldn’t be writing this.
Ultimately, here’s what it came down to for me: I like and respect trag. So that’s it. That’s the end of the reflection. That’s all it has to be for me.
So if you are perusing this thread after this edit, don’t unspoiler this Salt Lake Tribune news article until you read the responses over the previous page or so. Use them as a guide.

Assuming the fox post has been deleted. Damn. Never saw it.
Will I get banned if I send Bammer the fox photo?

I lean this way. The fox pic wasn’t gory or anything at least.

That fox was definitely already dead when it froze anyway
