I DO wish we'd sent kids back to school sooner, and I wish Mrs. B wasn't so panicky about that multisystem inflamatory syndrome, but hard to demand an apology from people who were overly cautious while we were trying to figure out a disease that killed 570,000 Americans and 3 million people worldwide.

I think it's well established at this point that the people most frightened by covid are not the elderly, but neckbeards like you.

The Verb account has definitely not been awkward & certainly hasn't been pretentious these past months, right?
That Maher vid certainly has a whiff of monday-morning-quarterbacking the COVID response, but he's not wrong about the ramifications of authorities deceiving us for what they perceive to be our own good. I posted this earlier in the thread but it's relevant here too: "while it's easy to scare people, it's very hard to unscare them"... I would add to this "while it's easy to lie to people, it's very hard to un-lie to them". So I'm onboard with Maher here: tell me the truth. Tell me we don't know and that the right thing is to be overly cautious until we do, because there are only so many times people will hear the government lie before they stop listening and acting otherwise is just adding evidence to the skeptics' playbook for when the next crisis arises.

No one would endorse lying to the public about it. I'm sure you'll find a few zingers and exaggerations to gotcha me, but the number of authorities telling the public things they knew to be false just to trick them into not spreading the disease has to be miniscule.
