Has it always been this way where if you lean to one particular side you have to absolutely 100% locked in to every single take on every single issue?
Why can’t someone call themselves a Dem and be for gun control, abortion access, etc. but also be for reduced taxes. Why can’t someone be democratic but acknowledge that a Repub has at least a couple of good ideas.

I think this depends on who you know / are following? I'd say most of the people I know fall somewhere on the ideological spectrum without adhering to every single position of each side's major party (in the case of the US, Democrats vs. Republicans). In fact, they're often openly scornful of them.

This claimed plot against John Bolton is kind of bizarre. If Iran wanted to prevent US intervention in their country, a couple crates of 107mm rockets would probably go farther than killing that guy.
