I read a ton of conservatives including NYT's David Brooks and most of the columnists at National Review.
Is there anyone that puts themselves out there as THE voice of conventional wisdom more than David Brooks? Dude sure does love to hear himself talk. That said, I do listen to Shields and Brooks on NPR from time to time. They rarely seem to disagree.

twitter primarily. I like those that I follow, and they tend to be a little more liberal than I am, so when they RT something it's usually worthwhile in terms of giving me a different perspective than what I may have stumbled upon on my own.
Good call.
For those of you who have an ideology that fits one that's common among the populace, how often do you seek out opposing viewpoints to keep you honest?
I subscribe to the NY Times because I get the local news with it, but I would no longer rank it above the other national papers. It's a useful enough source of conventional wisdom, and any idea of any merit that is ideologically distanced from me is likely to get a hearing.
I subscribe to the political bulletin, which summarizes the main stories in most of the major national dailys, and offers a lot of political coverage (polling data, etc).
I subscribe to Reader Supported News and Truthout.org, although I only read maybe 15% of the articles between the two. I subscribe to the American Propsect, which is, to my money, the best news journal out there.
I also subscribe to the progress report, which used to be quite good but has become less ideological and more partisan. I also subscribed to the daily kos for some reason, but it is unbearably triumphal to the point that it isn't really readable.
I do not actively seek out conservative commentary. Pieces that are worth my time usually end up getting filtered into one of these other sources. And seeking out conservative news sites strikes me as a false equivalency at this point (and is slowly becoming the consensus amongs the political science discipline). It is so far off the rails that there is almost certainly nothing worth reading (and if there is it'll filter into the mainstream).
If there is a hell, and I go there, my punishment will be having to read David Brooks columns until the end of time.

I actually love David Brooks' columns. But I think it's hard to pin him down as a conservative. If you want that point of view, I would look elsewhere.
I used to read Ross Douthat but I haven't in years and can't decide if it's worth my time anymore.

Brooks just bores the hell out of me. Douthat's actually pretty good on Twitter, though I don't follow him. It's funny how I used to read all the NYT columnists a bunch when I was younger but now I never do.

Does he still use that label? Does he have an actual label other than talking head?

I've started following Douthat on Twitter since this post

I like CNN International a lot. I understand all the criticisms lobbied at American CNN (and I've confirmed them when I'm in the US) but I don't think they mostly apply to CNN International. The only problem is that it also has a few shows I couldn't give less of a shit about that always seem to be on when I turn on the TV in the afternoon. Like Marketplace Africa. Who the fuck watches Marketplace Africa?

What are RM's thoughts on Vice news? I took an admittedly "old man yells at crowd" stance when it rolled out, but it seems to be gaining in popularity. Should I be watching this?

I have not, but I plan on giving Vice News Tonight a shot, which looks like it just started this week.

I check in there very rarely and almost every time I do I have no fucking clue what they're talking about. Kris and Matt did a good job dissecting them back when they used to post here.

Do you happen to have a link to that discussion?
No one single discussion, you'd have to just search for zerohedge with one of their usernames.
