What happens when you dress as a Boston Marathon victim and post it on Twitter

A Michigan woman who posted her bombing victim costume online has apologized after receiving death threats.

It's a tough choice for most offensive Halloween costume of 2013. It's either that or the Trayvon Martin/Gary Zimmerman combo.

Eh. That's just our culture now. We reward attention whores with attention and then attack them for their behavior.

The nudez aren't bad though. Not sure why good looking girls find it necessary to post naked pictures of themselves where anyone can find them and match them up with the home address that the moron posted online.

I thought that was the best bit.

"How DARE you make fun of a situation where people lost their lives! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU! GRRUWARRRRMURICA!"

I kinda hope that when all the people have died out, there'll be like one guy left, and he'll be all alone on a beach and starving or whatever, and he'll use the last of his strength to write the following message in the sand before succumbing to the inevitable:

"It's probably for the best."

Consider it done, McDig. Except, I'll probably leave out the "probably."

“So the Red Sox won the World Series, congratulations Red Sox...So the parade, they go to the place where the Marathon bombing took place, they put the World Series statue there and they sing ‘God Bless America’ and they say ‘Boston Strong’ and they chant ‘USA,’ you know. It was again, a bad day, three people died, that’s terrible. More were maimed, that’s horrible, but unfortunately that happens every day, in car accidents and everything else. I mean, your city was not leveled by Godzilla.” - Bill Maher

There's a big difference between a car accident and a terrorist attack--even one in which only three people were killed--so even though I think certain responses to the bombing leave themselves open to criticism, this analogy doesn't really fly. I was more put off as the playoffs were still going on and people were discussing how the team was playing for the bombing victims...because what if they had lost? "Sorry, guy with no legs: we just couldn't play hard enough for you!" Also, obviously, I'm uncomfortable with the way grief and mourning have been branded and standardized since 5 minutes after the bombing occurred.

I tend to agree. I felt the same way about how it was felt the Stanley cup deserved to goto Boston because of it. We have (a lot of) violence here in Chicago too. It's called Friday nite.

Media always make too much out of these things. Fox sold it, they are selling the WS though, there's tons of hyperbole of which Maher himself is guilty often. Bottom line? Who cares? The people of Boston are happy, and they got to come together in a galvanizing fashion and feel good about themselves and their city and they donated a bunch of money to people who were hurt.

Not everyone has to be Chomsky.

Maher is speaking to an audience of people who hate the entire concept of sports in general but they will salivate over hours of political discourse as if it is any more useful than wasting time watching baseball.

Maher has a consistent track record of making essentially correct statements in a real assholish way.

I watch him every week, and yea, this is absolutely true.

And I saw the show that contains the BI quote - it wasn't really received well, seems like the audience was caught off guard with that one.
