In my opinion (not that you asked) I think she was a vile human being and her death doesn't change that. I'm not sure why we have to be respectful of someone who was so disrespectful of others while she was alive. I'll not celebrate anyone dying though.
Great clip Spenno. She sure had balls. And every single MP on every side, but particularly her own, lived in outright fear of her. She met her match once, we had a PM, Charles Haughey. He gave her the willies completely(though he was the corrupt carbon copy of her)
It is 20 years since it mattered if she was alive or dead. If she had died when she was still PM I would have been dancing in the street but now I'm not really too interested.
I would never pretend to be an expert on British politics. But my mother (a Brit who has spent the last 30+ years in the U.S.) is a screaming liberal and thinks that Thatcher actually did a lot of good for the U.K. in the long run. Mostly from mentality standpoint. She thinks Brits relied on the government and social programs far too much and her policies lessened that dependency. She also thinks her economic policies, that were carried on by those who followed, meant the country felt less of an impact from economic downturns. On a side note, my brother is currently buying his council house from the government, which I believe is a program started by Thatcher.
All I remember of the woman was that her and Reagan were pretty tight. So maybe they decided that in order to fight communism they also had to "stop feeding the bears" in their own countries? That's what I took from my childhood understanding of these particular political leaders of that time.
This bit about her calling Nelson Mandela a terrorist is bothersome though. I never knew she had said such a thing. Either way I think she should pay for her own funeral or forever be labeled a socialist, postmortem.

She sounds like someone who might be 'liberal' in terms of American politics but a Tory at heart, like most of the New Labour party.

She called his organisation a 'typical' terrorist organisation, and allegedly called him a 'grubby little terrorist'.
Nelson Mandela would've fit the CIA criteria for murder-droning just as much as Al-Awlaki. Promoting violent acts in the furtherance of political aims and whatnot.
