When a lot of people look at that picture, they think all these characters are in the same tight-knit group, sharing conservative ideas, which is far from the truth... all they really have in common is the ability and willingness to have civil, productive conversations in which they express their differing ideas very clearly, and they are willing and open to having their minds changed.

Who thinks this? Obviously Sam Harris isn’t a conservative. I also don’t really think Joe Rogan is. But they are largely unbearable in a group. That combo looks like death.

What would your ideal combo be?

Armond White, Mel Gibson, Zach Snyder, Bret Easton Ellis, John Milius

That would be a hell of a dinner conversation.

Of just those people? Or anyone?

anyone

Mel Gibson
John Milius
Kanye West
Zack Snyder

Those four for sure. I am not sure who else.

Isnt Milius all strokey now? If we are talking past Milius, he might pull a gun on you.

His wardrobe game has gotten worse, I admit.

Peterson is easily the best-dressed in that picture, and his style game has gotten much, much better of late. Dood has learned how to edit.

Imagine John Milius crafting a movie portrayal of Teddy Roosevelt. It’s just as amazing as you’re imagining.

Rubin and Peterson at least have something of a considered taste. The others are just paunchy humps in awful jeans, ill-fitting shirts (black is never flattering, fam), and terrible footwear.

I am not interested in normative debates. What's the point?
