The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

But government actors would probably still be easily able to pay the cost. Especially our beloved, saintly government that in no way engages in twitter bots to alter opinions.

Most bots aren't verified, so charging 8$ for a checkmark does nothing unless they plan on making Twitter a subscription model. And checkmarks are absolutely no symbol for truth now, so that isn't going to change.
Different problem.
This is the key part I think most folkx were missing:
By leveraging Apple Pay and Google Pay they backdoor multi-factor authentication into the system without overburdening the platform itself.
Except they admit it probably won’t work, otherwise why delay Twitter Blue?
Twitter Blue has been around for a year, it's the addition of the blue check that's new. But I think you are partially right in that they know it will be chaos for the first few weeks and they are trying to escape blame for election problems caused by mis/disinformation. A lot of folkx are salivating at the thought of blaming Musk should the red team prevail today and he's smart enough to know to cover his ass here and delay it by a few days.

I'm a fan of the move fast and break things mentality. It's more entertaining if anything else. You dorks actually want more secrecy?
Imagine a Delta employee is filmed saying they’d love to refuse service to red hats. In the aftermath, a verified account called @DeltaAirlinesReal tweets a statement supporting them, and that tweet gets 20,000 engagements (including being shown on Fox News).
Delta’s best protection isn’t to put out their own statement. It’s to be able to say “actually, we’re not even on Twitter, so that can’t be us.”
From a purely business standpoint, and coming from a man who has at times been held up as brilliant, this is all wonderfully hilarious.

After musks disasterous Twitter space outlining his plans for advertisers and raising revenue, Nintendo have tweeted. First of many I bet. They’re being cloned all over the place

Edit: apologies, unnecessarily harsh comment there

This current game seems like all musk winning and little else.
Just think: if he can get a million people to maintain paid verification subscriptions for 40 years, the service will have earned almost as much as Twitter’s advertising brought in last year.
