That's probably right. Only can grow for so long without continuously ramping up the drama.

Oh, I'm assured it's all quite consistent. Freedom of speech not freedom of reach and all that.

How did Elon neglect to fire James Baker when he let a huge chunk of the company go?

I use Untrack me, so this is functionally how I use a Twitter extension, but I get the sense this is not how the average Twitter or Tweetdeck user experiences the app.

Did anyone ever define "Shadow banning" as you are able to submit a message but it doesn't actually post anywhere in the service other than the Twitter team?

It's not shadowbanning, it's “Visibility Filtering”.

It's a very cute wordgame all the folks that feel the need to defend Twitter are playing.

The worst part is that it actually works on a sizeable chunk of the population.

Just imagine what a paradise the world would be if everyone were as smart as Burt and Simple Schoolboy.

Curse our stupidity!

Trust me, the real curse is being smart in a world of idiots.

Is there an example of a person or company that ran a social media company of significant size, and didn’t at some point come around to suppressing content, behaviors, or people in order to protect their own financial selves? I genuinely don’t see how there could be. I don’t think such a thing would ever happen organically.

Totally? no.

I get that this falls under the "Ok, yes, it's happening but it's a good thing" stage, but McP makes a fair point that brand management and fiduciary duties for publicly traded multinationals are probably indistinguishable from censorship in the overwhelming majority of cases.

I trust Musk as far as I can throw him, but obviously there is a difference in degree between Musk and someone like a Tim Cook or a government bureaucrat turned Trust and Safety committee member, at least so far. Even if he only turns out to be less censorious, that would represent a positive development and reversing of a trend. The above tweet is a few weeks old, but I can't remember if this was before or after he said we was no longer working with the censorship organizations. In any case, It was dumb for several reasons.

He also got raked over the coals in the replies by free speech advocates who have supported him. Perhaps this will educate him on the error of his ways.
