This effectively ends biden’s campaign. I’m genuinely looking forward to intelligent conversation around Warren’s socialist-lite politics vs his moderate pitch

i just hope Bloomy waits until there are fewer Dem candidates on the stage to join the debates so the 1-4% support level parasites fishing for twitter followers/book deals don’t get a chance to make a name for themselves by attacking him regardless of the fact that it just helps the GOP

You've not voted since Dukakis in '88. This is big.

i do look forward to him debating Sanders. that strikes me as a good
proxy for the core debate between the wings of the Dem party

Democratic Party - % of time focused on placating prospective voters fuming over gender/orientation terminology, over time:

1990: 0.5%
2000: 1.3%
2010: 2.1%
2020: 84.6%

Source: Institute for What the Hell Went So Wrong That Trump Actually Got Re-Elected in 2020
Margin of Error: +/- 2.1%

I feel like Bloomberg's entry would only help the very people he's afraid of (Warren, Bernie), since he obviously isn't appealing to their base. And the addition of a 2nd billionaire who's come to save the day does not seem in line with where this primary is. I'd be surprised if he cracks 3-4% unless Biden drops out.

Uninformed opinion: I haven't been following this particularly closely and idk what polling says but my instinct is also that nominating a billionaire white man doesn't seem consistent with the narrative of this primary.

But “Capitalism has lifted millions out of poverty” is a tried and true message

Obviously I believe that statement is true, but we're talking about politics, not truth.

i think that more than i can ever remember, the voters are primed to accept basically any given message if it comes from the right candidate. Biden couldn't deliver this message effectively because he's too old and has too much baggage. But Bloomberg, delivering this message as a moderate Dem with no legislative history to run under a microscope, and a history of largely unbiased reporting from his news outlet, could sell this message really fucking well.

I'm sorry but if you think the 77-year old billionaire former mayor of New York who couldn't even fix the MTA is going to just stumble in to the nomination you have a fucking brain injury.

Maybe, we'll see. I'm very skeptical that he's "the right candidate" for that or any other message. I think Mayor Pete would be a much better conduit for that particular message than Bloomberg.
