Cohen quits the RNC
Quote:
“This important role requires the full time attention and dedication of each member. Given the ongoing Mueller and SDNY investigations, that simply is impossible for me to do,” he wrote.
Cohen also criticized the administration's policy of separating migrant children from their parents at the southern border, the first time he’s distanced himself from the president.
"As the son of a Polish holocaust survivor, the images and sounds of this family separation policy is heart wrenching,” Cohen wrote. “While I strongly support measures that will secure our porous borders, children should never be used as bargaining chips."
Cohen on Tuesday hired New York lawyer Guy Petrillo to represent him in a federal investigation into his business dealings.

You have never worked at the federal level, have you?

Annnnnnnd we’re already back to eye rolling about entire world views based on celebrity tweets.
That was an example of why we need to get the emotions in check before this gets worse. For example, an Antifa sect tweeted out a list of ICE agents names and locations this morning. We are teetering on the verge of something really bad here.
No, the past two years were littered with examples of why we needed to get the emotions out of immigration issues. Constant fear mongering has reached a level in which the discussion of people in cages has such little impact on a basic humanity/civility level that people think bringing up a celebrities tweet can deflect the issue.

“We’re going to ask the courts to change their mind about the legality of indefinitely imprisoning children. Should be no problem.”
Quote:
(e) The Attorney General shall promptly file a request with the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California to modify the Settlement Agreement in Flores v. Sessions, CV 85-4544 (“Flores settlement”), in a manner that would permit the Secretary, under present resource constraints, to detain alien families together throughout the pendency of criminal proceedings for improper entry or any removal or other immigration proceedings.

Exactly why “not this” is a bad answer.

Because the only alternative to inhuman behavior that an entire party’s worth of ruling figures can bring themselves to entertain continues to reduce legal immigration while locking up every child at the border until such time that their parents can be punished for not following the legal path that is being actively constrained, however long that takes??
Yeah, it’s probably everyone else’s fault for not organizing and proposing a solution that those people whose entire purpose is to effectively govern could sell to their “all immigrants are ms-13” base.

A formal petition removing him would need a majority to pass. Yes, I do believe the FC could achieve that...especially with presidential support.
Interesting. Why would POTUS support this? He doesn't seem any more beholden to the FC than to the conventional GOP, and at least with Ryan he gets to portray the illusion of having a House leader who is working to find compromises between the two factions. If they were to put a less-diplomatic person in that role -- from either side of the hate spectrum -- wouldn't it reflect poorly on Trump as they would likely be even less productive than they are currently?
