The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3) Favorite entry in my favorite franchise.
2. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS) I usually get stuck or overwhelmed and quit Zelda games. I couldn't quit this one.
3. Street Fighter 2 (Arcade) Memories of being a kid at the arcade on the beach, sandy feet, all wet from swimming, playing this while the scary teenagers played pool and listened to Metallica in the back.
4. Sonic the Hedgehog (Sega Genesis) Told my step dad the first time I put it on that graphics could never possibly get better than this....he agreed.
5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii U (Wii U) First Mario game I played with my kids.
6. Luigi's Mansion (Gamecube) Mostly watched my youngest sister play and help'd her when she got stuck. Good times.
7. DuckTales (NES) I'm really into ducks.
8. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3) Bought this and the first Uncharted when I got my PS3. Fell in love. Unfortunately no other entry has matched it for me.
9. Pitfall! (Atari 2600) Little kids who loved Indiana Jones (me) lost their minds for this.
10. Quackshot (Genesis) I'm really really into ducks. Especially ducks that dress like Indiana Jones.
Run2death
Please vote for my team because I played many of them with my older brother who died of AIDS-Cancer.
His dying words were, "I may be about to die, but at least we still have the memories of playing Super Mario World, GoldenEye 007, Super Metroid, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Portal, Halo: Combat Evolved, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, StarCraft, Galaga and a yet unnamed game together."

before the match even begins, bada is looking for the exits
uninterested in being thrashed by a blood thirsty killing machine, he is forcibly tossed into the octagon by his trainers and sponsors so as to at least meet the minimum contract appearance
as soon as the referee begins the match, bada kneels in concession
r2d lifts his war-painted arms into the air, turns to the ring announcer, and menacingly shouts 'i want balboa!!'

R2D takes this one handily. I was not as big a fan of neither the Sonic nor the Unchar series, while R2D had two games i had intended to pick (GoldenEye and SOTN).
Bada is to be commended for throwing down SF2 so early in the draft though. Respect.

Holy shit that is a long OP. You might want to consider spoilering the videos, MD.
Easily r2d. I don’t care about any of the games on bada’s team. I don’t care about MOST of the games on r2d’s list either, but the opening 1-2 punch of SMW and GoldenEye is impressive. Two classics from my childhood.
I've played more of the games on bada's list but I like the games I've played from r2d's list better. I've always hated first person shooters, even GoldenEye 007, but I can't ignore how great the game is for those that like those kinds of games. Also, r2d has Galaga. I mean...
Still, bada, has some outstanding franchises represented. I like what I've played of the Uncharted series (even though I can't get out of the goddamn ocean!). Street Fighter is one of the best. And Sonic the Hedgehog will always have a special place in my heart. I considered taking Street Fighter 2 and Sonic and different points in the tournament. Also, Pitfall! is a great, GREAT, late round get. Well done, bada.
Ultimately, I think I have to go r2d because he has such a great range of classic franchises represented and he has some series "all time" great games on his list. bada's team starts soooo strongly, though.
bada 1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3) The best game in the best new series of the 00's. Multiplayer was also very fun. 2. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS) 3. Street Fighter 2 (Arcade) An absolute classic. I was never any good at it, but always enjoyed playing it. 4. Sonic the Hedgehog (Sega Genesis) Never really cared for Sonic games. They want you go to fast, but when you slow down it feels like it complete breaks the flow. 5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii U (Wii U) The best of the New Super Mario Bros. games, but not on the same tier as the originals. Way more fun with someone on the Wii U Gamepad. 6. Luigi's Mansion (Gamecube) Fun side game, but not essential. Luigi is adorable. 7. DuckTales (NES) Ducks! 8. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3) Solid, but not spectacular. 9. Pitfall! (Atari 2600) 10. Quackshot (Genesis)
run2death 1. Super Mario World (SNES) Considered by many to be the best Mario, if not best game, of all time. Not for me though. It's still fun, but it lacks the variety of other titles. The cape is also super overpowered. 2. GoldenEye 007 (N64) Loved this at the time. The reason I got an N64. So many memories of deatmatches with friends and my dad after work. Doesn't really hold up anymore. 3. Super Metroid (SNES) The best 2D "Metroidvania". The atmosphere, the pacing, and platforming are all top notch. 4. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1) The most overrated 2D Metroidvania. It's a fine game, but I've never quite figured out the praise other than the whole world flipping thing. 5. Portal (PC) Really fun. Really short. 6. Halo: Combat Evolved (XBox) Never a Halo guy. This one started it all but I liked 2 and 3 better. The mechanics are super solid for a first game in a series. 7. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Gameboy) Played this for the time a couple years ago. Really solid, crazy to think this was an original GameBoy game. 8. StarCraft (PC) 9. Galaga (Arcade) Played this for almost 30 minutes at a barcade a month ago. A classic for a reason. 10. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (GameCube) A game that seems to be forgotten by many. Would love to see a sequel.
run2death with the win here. I like the variety of bada's team, but other than Uncharted 2 and Street Fighter 2 the other games had much better sequels or prequels.

Games I've played:
Quote:
bada Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3) Street Fighter 2 (Arcade) Sonic the Hedgehog (Sega Genesis) DuckTales (NES)ti
run2death Super Mario World (SNES) GoldenEye 007 (N64) StarCraft (PC)
When it comes to games I've played, both of these teams are stacked. Genesis was the first system I had that was mine and of course it had Sonic, and tbe speed and colors in that game were like nothing I'd ever seen before. I have great memories of Ducktales, too--I've played it on emulators recently, and the variety in gameplay between the different worlds still feels significant. I never had Super Mario World, only played it at friends' houses, but it had a greag depth--every time I picked it up, it'd be at a different part and feel fresh and new. StarCraft was a monster--I was first exposed to RTS with Warcraft II, but the lore and story of StarCraft was worlds better.
I'm lukewarm on GoldenEye--just not a huge multiplayer guy, and I know that's what most people loved about it. Lukewarm on Streetfighter 2, too--I had the Sega port of the turbo edition, and it was fine but one of the last fighting games I played before losing interest. Uncharted 2 is very good, and it had some nice combat inovations that separated it from UC1...but I played all 3 of those games close together and nothing makes any edition stick out as "Wow!" to me.
I think there's enough going on here that I don't have to delve too much into the games I didn't play. R2D by a hair!
bada: Uncharted 2 is the best of a very good lot. Street Fighter 2 was the best, I think. Sonic wasn't my favourite, but still great. DuckTales is inspired, though I would've gone with DuckTales 2. A bit platforming-heavy - not quite the genre-breadth I think is required.
run2death Super Mario World is awesome. I've never played GoldenEye or Super Metroid, but they're consistently in the conversation when people take top games. Portal is a perfect piece of gaming. Halo is good, but not my favourite shooter by any stretch. StarCraft not as good as Warcraft for me, but probably the better game. Galaga!
Giving it to run2death for having a broader list with some more obviously stellar picks.
Bada gets extra points because he's the only person to draft a Sonic game in the tournament, and the franchise is still very important to me, even if most of it can fuck off. The rest of his team I am not familiar enough with, however. A Link Between Worlds is supposedly a successor to Link to the Past with obvious new features, so that's a plus in my book. I'd love to play it someday, as I've never played a Zelda game that I didn't enjoy. I don't believe I've ever played the original iteration of Street Fighter 2, but I did have Tournament Edition on SNES because I loved fighting games as a kid even though I wasn't that great at them. Never played any of the New SMB games, but Mario is another favorite franchise of mine, and I know these games are generally well regarded. Ditto Luigi's Mansion.
Run2death is clearly determined to win with Mario World as his #1 pick. Along with the original Genesis Sonic games, this is the reason I still play, even if I wouldn't call myself a gamer. The rest of his team is filled out with numerous other legendary titles: GoldenEye, Super Metroid, Link's Awakening, Halo. I haven't played all of them, but it's hard to deny their stature.
All told, I think that manages to push R2D into the winning column.
Oh no problem. I knew just picking my favorite games and not giving any thought to reputation and stuff wouldn't be a winning strategy. I really enjoyed the draft and thinking about what my favorite games were over the years I didn't care about winning. Typically in these draft tourneys if I want to win I win. I know what RM likes better than RM does.
