I've been watching interviews with Scott Stapp and, now that I'm beginning to sympathize with him and all that he's been through, I can kind of feel okay about his yarly voice. Some of their stuff is pretty good. One Last Breath is very touching with a very good guitar part... and I respect this My Own Prison take.
It's actually very similar to how I feel about a lot of Pearl Jam songs these days. Sometimes it's difficult to get past Ed's weird voice, or even begin to sympathize with its eccentricities, but when I do it's pretty cool.
By most accounts he was a complete scumbag to everyone he met during his heyday. But maybe he feels bad about it now that he's a punchline. Good for him if he gets his life together, I just hope his music stays away from my ears.
He suffered from addiction and borderline personality disorder and his behaviors were symptomatic. He's better now and I admire his honesty and strength of character in the interviews... and now that he's a real, respectable human being, I can't be so hard on him... he's actually pretty talented.

Yeah not for nothing but if you are a dude with a baritone voice its probably the easiest way of singing to copy. Hence the million guys that sound like that.

I'm impressed with his ability to hit notes dead on and make virtually zero mistakes in the live performances I've recently watched on YouTube. Most people can't do that.
