You need to be making difficult decisions about what you choose to take with you on your adventure. You need to be making painful choices about what you choose to leave behind. You need to be gettin' good.

you. are. playing. it. wrong.
I’m not picking up the damn apples. I just don’t want its tooltip cluttering up my screen while I’m looking for duct tape and a copy of Great Expectations.

Still very early in the game for me, a couple of hours in (and I play slow), the game is still very on rails right now, so I can’t really speak to the exploration or open-worldness of it all, but I like it very much so far. The whole aesthetic is cool and so incredibly detailed, characters look good, voice acting is good, sound is great. Gunplay feels nice, I’m not usually a big pistols guy, but I didn’t feel overwhelmed in any of the early going. Space combat I’ve got to do some more of before I can judge it. I really like the lock picking mini game, big fan compared to the Fallout/Skyrim model that was getting so old.
I had my first crash when trying to ride the monorail in New Atlantis.
There is one mechanic from Fallout 76 I wish that they carried over: in that game, when you kill a base full of raiders or whatever, you can just select one guy and there was a button for “search nearby corpses,” and a big transfer list will come up that aggregates all of the loot from the guys you killed. Starfield is back to having to go to one dude at a time and selecting loot, which seems like a step back.
Ensign is right: Vasco gets in the way all the fucking time. I also feel like he dealt no damage.

Taking my time so far. Did a few campaign missions until I was promoted to choose one of three paths, then branched off and did some bounty missions I picked up at a mission board on Mars. They were for the most part standard dungeon-crawl-y, but it’s been fun to do some combat under different gravity conditions, pick up some new weapon types, and start to level up and pick skills. Still not sold on space combat, it just doesn’t seem very skill/strategy based, you just sort of try to keep a ship in your sights and go pew pew pew. Reminds me of my least favorite part of No Man’s Sky (not that these games should be compared!).
