Ruddo Mario is my favourite Nintendo franchise - another one I have memories of multiple iterations and can get nostalgic for different times of my life.
I played a lot of CoD with mates at university, and prefer it to Halo, but it was more a means to an end than a great experience.
The Guitar Hero guitar is the best peripheral draft, easily.
The rest of the list is a bit Nintendo-heavy, and features games I haven't really got any active experience with.
Trag Oh man, I sunk HOURS in the SNES Final Fantasy games (and Chrono Trigger). FFVI is a stupendous experience.
The NES never came to South Africa, but we did have knock-offs called "Golden China", and boy howdy, it was the best for little ABNorman and his brother. This is my favourite console pick.
I enjoyed the first TLoU, but I feel like it hasn't quite proven itself as a franchise just yet.
Tetris is a solid, if slightly dull pick.
Madden = sports = bleh.
The Portal games are unimpeachable. Tony Hawk was basically all I played on my brother's PlayStation, and I miss the hell out of Guitar Hero.
My wife is a lecturer in human-computer interaction, so the Adaptive Controller got big props in this household.

Think the regular xbox controllers are the best out there.
I think that as we judge controllers, we’re conditioned to ask certain questions. Let’s be honest, they haven’t changed all that much since the NES. Up/Down/Left/Right, some action buttons, some menu buttons...
Then we got the L3/R3, which introduced some new movement mechanics.
Then it’s like, “how well does it fit in my hand?” and “Is it cordless?” “Battery life?” “Other bells and whistles?”
Once the PS5 controller went, I was more interested in thinking outside the box. And I’m being 100% genuine when I say I think the adaptive controller is a brilliant piece of design that improves certain people’s lives immeasurably.
