The Best Game of the Series

I was thinking of giving Assassin's Creed a try. I've never played one. I'm not going to play them all. Which one should I play? Call of Duty is another one I've never played. Let this be a thread to debate the best game in long-runnings series and help me decide what to play.

I’ve only played AC2 and CoD Ghosts and WW2. I can’t really recommend any since i’ve only played a fraction.
