GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas.
Arguably the only GTA games you ever need to play, IV and V never really held up to these ones, but I was also not 13 anymore by the time those came out.

San Andreas is obviously the goat, but I also really enjoyed IV.
SA is definitely the GOAT. really tempted to pull the trigger but full price for 3 games that are all almost 20 years old (and that i've already bought multiple times). I'll probably just wait for a sale.

I played all 3 of these games on the PC originally. I downloaded III from The Pirate Bay and for some reason the save game function didn't work, so I had to constantly keep it running or I'd lose my progress. Never beat it, but got pretty far. I remember VC feeling so much smaller and not as rich as SA, which was just a revelation the first time through.
I bought all three of them for the PS3 for like $3 each, but felt like the controls were super shoddy and didn't get very far. Are the controls being revamped as part of the remaster, does anyone know?

i think i saw that they are inheriting some playability enhancements from the newer games so they'd play more like those (things like auto-aim, etc). I don't recall specifics but I think if you're ok with the modern game controls it should be similar.
My favorite part about playing on PC was being able to set up a folder of MP3s and having my own radio station. I had these games on PC, PS2 and some digital versions on the PS4. How many fuckin times do i need to buy SA???

I'm going to pick it up over the weekend I think. I've watched a few people play it and it looks great. Some nice QOL upgrades and a fresh coat of paint. The lighting system in particular looks really nice.

Nah, this thing looks like absolute shit. Not to mention the poor and fluctuating frame rate, even on the PS5.
It was removed from the Steam (PC) store after two days. Yikes.
While I'm a huge fan of the old GTA games, I'm actually delighted by this. I've basically written Rockstar off at this point, F those guys. Aside from the performance issues, I also read that the soundtracks were decremented quite a bit due to expired licensing.

I'm not a frame rate junkie like you and tree so that doesn't really bother me, I'm just excited to play some classic old games.
Anyway, frame rate issues just makes it a more authentic experience lol
I'm talking about massive drops in framerate, not a steady 30fps that some would object to. That's completely unacceptable considering current gen hardware capability.

Not totally surprised to see they aren’t great upgrades considering they showed pretty much none of it leading up to launch.
Not sure why you’d write off Rockstar though. The last full game they released was RDR2, which was incredible. This trilogy strikes me as investors telling them they needed to put something out in between RDR2 and GTA6.
