The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
I always intended to make the voting team versus team, but others have differing ideas. Let's put it to a vote.
Option 1: Team versus Team
6 Team vs. Team Matchups (determined at random)
Winners Advance
6 Losing Teams Go to A Sudden Death Six-way Matchup (people vote for two)
2 Winning Teams Advance to Single Elimination Phase
Round of 8 (Head to Head):
Round of 4 (Head to Head):
Championship
Individual voters will determine criteria for judging teams. Is it by how well the game plays today, nostalgia, mechanics, influence, at random, or some combination of all?
Option #2: Round by Round
Games chosen from individual rounds will face off in a battle royale of sorts. Points will be given to teams on far their game advances.
Example:
Round 1 Games (vote for four) Dark Souls The Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past The Last of Us The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Super Mario World Tetris Contra Super Mario Bros. 3 Pokemon Blue Donkey Kong Country Uncharted 2: Among Thieves The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
8 Round 1 Games With the Least Votes (Vote for 2) 2 Games with Highest Votes earn 1 point for their team
4 Round 1 Games with Highest Votes get 2 points for their team for winning the first round of voting then move onto:
4 Round 1 Games With Highest Votes (vote for 1) Game with Highest Votes earns 5 points for their team
Repeat For all Rounds, Team with Highest Point Total Wins
Option #3:
Team Versus Team followed by a March Madness style Tournament with all of the Games Chosen (and 8 more to make the numbers work out)

We didn't pick teams thinking the rounds were so significant that they would compete against all other games in that round, so that's a bad idea. I think the games should be randomly chosen and matched up with other randomly chosen games each round.

Or how about this! The teams are randomly paired and then each team has to choose the game they want pitted against the other team, unknowing of what they are going to choose, but knowing what's available to them. That's a good idea.
