The last one I played was Assassin's Creed Unity and it was the final straw. The games just always feel to be half-assed and repetitive in multiple ways to where I finally just said I'm done.

The series really rebounded after that one. Each one since has had its own charm and gameplay hook. Still bloated as hell. It took me 45 hours or so to "beat" Odyssey and there was still tons to do.

I think everybody hit AC fatigue with Unity. That was a buggy, boring mess and Ubisoft was just making paint by numbers AC games at that point. I picked it up cheap and couldn't bother playing beyond the first couple of hours. It was terrible. To their credit Ubisoft listened, took a couple years off the cycle and came back with a drastically reworked game and won a lot of us back.
I'd say that if you found any enjoyment in some of the earlier games, especially AC3 or Black Flag, you would definitely like Origins and Odyssey. They take the formula of those games and add in some varied mission types and some lite RPG mechanics for character progression. I'd agree with MD that those games do feel a tad bloated though.

I never got into Assassin's Creed, partially because it purported to be a stealth game and I just felt like the Dishonored series did that so much better.

The stealth portions are few and far between these days. It's pretty much an action rpg now.

Yeah the stealth is pretty light. You get the old standard of following a target through a crowd or along the rooftops (which i can't stand, thankfully these are rare), and the option to use stealth to clear out enemy bases and camps. Very similar to how the mechanic works in Far Cry. I enjoy trying to clear out a base without triggering an alarm response, but ymmv. It's definitely not a true stealth mechanic.

It ends up being a jack of all trades, master of none situation with the combat in these games. If it wasn't for the special skills you can unlock, the combat would be pretty repetitive and boring.

Yep, hence me having little interest compared to other games.

I just don't see why they had to continue the AC franchise at all after they lost so many fans. Why couldn't Origins and Odyssey be stand alone games? I might have been more interested.

Valhalla had the best release weekend of any AC game so far. I'd say whatever fans they lost came back and more.
a Pokemon Yellow remake coming out in November. Zelda in September.
Wait, they scrapped it again? Hasn't the new team had close to 2 years already to work on it? I could not care less about Pokemon, but I get why Nintendo wants to release those games on the regular.

Not again, just the once. Retro was hiring positions for MP4 at recently as September / October. It's far away.
