The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
First, we got a second helmet so we could play together in the house.
Then my mom bought one so she could join us. She had so much fun spending time with her grandkids that she started telling everyone she knew. Now her brother and two of her friends have one each. They use them for get-togethers during COVID.
Last month, we got the step kids each one for the same reason. Meanwhile, a friend from Omaha decided to get one for himself and his kids.
Somehow, this is now the closest my family has ever been. This morning I played a round of disc golf with my mom, brother, and uncle while my daughter and her cousin ran around the course being kids. They found a wheelbarrow nearby and took turns pushing each other in it, saying they were the golf police. Then they crashed into a lake and were so pleased with what they had destroyed that they took selfies.
After golf ended, the ladies went off to play charades while the boys played a few rounds of dodgeball.
Just a Sunday morning at the park. Just thousands of miles apart.

Entering the gaming universe for the first time since Super Nintendo!
My neice has a PSVR and she uses it all the time. Mostly she plays FNAF, Superhot and Beats Saber. I am considering buying a quest 2, so I can try out Boneworks.

Can't wait!
Sat by the side of a lake drinking beer and watching a movie with friends again in this last night. Then we played a game of paintball before calling it a night.
This weekend I'm joining a coworker and her friends for a couple games of VR Catan.
It's a bit counterintuitive which games are great experiences...high profile stuff like The Climb 2 or (insert zombie game here) tends to get tiresome quicker than really simple (often cheaper) stuff that focuses on multiplayer gaming. If you need a vr partner at any time, download Rec Room (it's free), do the tutorial, and throw me a PM. We can go disc golfing together or something.
Also, as another person who dropped off gaming for many years only to recently pick it back up, I recommend:
Both are good at incorporating familiar arcade-style gameplay and simple controls while creating an experience worth returning to. Elven Assassin in particular has a great multiplayer community (lots of dads playing it), and social gameplay is what vr does best. If you've got 2 or 3 people to play with, the player-vs-player map is probably the funnest 7 minutes to be had in VR gaming. I'd also be happy to join you there or invite you into one of our games.
Spent the morning in rec room with family. One of the kids found a game that is a lot like Goldeneye pvp, so 8 of us across three generations massacred each other for an hour or so.
I don’t think any gaming experience has ever come close to multiplayer vr with friends. It’s on an entirely different level.
Real VR Fishing is a poorly named game, but it’s a lot of fun. It also has Spotify and YouTube support. My brother and I often use it to watch movies together, setting a massive screen up over the lake and renting a flick on YT. The developers are South Korean, and the current set of places to fish are all loving captures of real locations in SK. They’ve also got a ton of new content on the way.
I admittedly don’t know what it would be like to play it alone. I rarely play solo, anymore. But I like the game play. It’s a good blend of immersion and fun.
I also enjoy Walkabout Minigolf. That was my “Sunday morning chats with mom” game during the wintery parts of lockdown. Simple shit like that was so nice to have. It felt like I had somewhere to go. “What time is it? I’m supposed to meet my mom at the golf course.”
Recently my niece introduced my kids to a game in rec room that is basically vr Goldeneye pvp mode. They then played it with me, I passed it on to friends, and now that game’s been nearly all anyone’s played for the last few weeks. My niece launched herself off a platform a hundred feet above me and tagged my ass with a sniper rifle in midair. Then she landed on my proximity mine, and balance was restored.
Oh, and I’m fixing to beat Pixel Ripped 1995...a game where 16-bit era game characters come to life, and you play as a child who has to help them save the world. And there are xenomorphs on motorcycles.
Ended up playing some escape rooms with friends this weekend. A few of them were awesome...the ones that used the virtual environment to do things with puzzles that real escape rooms can’t do.
