Anyone interested in the new Fire Emblem game? I've never played one and it getting rave reviews. Watched a gameplay video and it does not interest me in the slightest.

I am currently playing Fire Emblem Awakening for the 3DS. That's a grid based strategy game. I'm enjoying it thus far. I'm very interested in the new Switch release. It looks great. A giant time investment.

I've always wanted to try one of the big name strategy/rpg games but I think they might just frustrate me. Especially the ones with permadeath. Is there a game on the chill end of that spectrum I could try?

XCom 2 lets you save at your discretion, I believe. Though if you solely rely on auto save, then yes, you’ll lose characters to permadeath.
I think you can turn permadeath off in Fire Emblem. I recently played Valkyria Chronicles 4. It has permadeath, but you can rez after you complete the main campaign. I loved VC4 - I got an "A" in every campaign, skirmish and squad story. I surprisingly played it for about 75 hours. It's probably a good jumping on point to the genre since it is more action focused and real time ish than most in the genre. VC1 is also a very good game. I give VC4 my highest recommendation.

Project Sakura Wars is an action heavy strategy game coming next spring for PS4. That should be really good too. And another good entry point to the genre, probably.

I got to the final boss fight in XCom and just kept getting walloped again and again; I couldn't even get one hit on the big baddie before all of my dudes died. It sucked because I had so much fun leading up to that. Have wanted to play XCom 2, but that left such a bad taste in my mouth.

I quit Persona 5 for the same reason. Having your entire party 1-hit killed with no chance of success isn’t fun in any way.

Just spent $200 plus on a bunch of pre-orders to maximize every opportunity to receive my 20% discount from Best Buy before the Gamers Club membership expires.
In this case, I was planning to buy these games anyway and they seem to be pretty safe bets. I have the opportunity to save 20%, plus earn an additional $10 store credit for each game. I will not have the opportunity for those savings when each game is released. Plus, I can always cancel if the game has terrible reviews. It's a win win.

I've been thinking about that. I think mine dies in Oct.
