The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
That's an incredible gap from start to finish. I'm sure there are a couple of NES games that I've owned that long that I've never beat without Game Genie.

Save states are the best thing to ever happen to retro games.

OMG yes.
I never would have beat it without save states. It's the reason it took 30 years. I finally got through Kung Fu on the NES the other day too.
I have major respect for Mega Man games, but I still haven't clicked with any of the games in the series. 3 is probably my favorite of what I've played.

Playing through the 6 original Mega Man games. Forgot how shitty 4 is.
Fun games overall, though.
This is how I'm introducing my 3 year old to games. The other day I put the twins down for a nap, came into the living room and collapsed on the couch, she comes in and says, "Dada, put your phone down, we are playing Mega Man." We usually do MM5 or MM6. She can go in a straight line and sometimes shoot guys. Jumping...not so much. Swelled with pride when she jumped and climbed a ladder for the first time.
I've only had one play session w/ MK11 so far, but initial impressions. The game looks good and runs smooth (haven't fought online yet), but I can't stand the cartoon-y character models; I thought the characters from MKX looked much better, especially the women. Gonna jump into the Story Mode this weekend once I shake the rust off my MK single player skills....
I've also read online over the past day a TON of complaints on the ridiculous progression system and the strict dependency on microtransactions, which is pretty disappointing. Sounds like a lot of fans are scathing over this.
On another note, I'm really hoping Days Gone ends up being a winner cause I'm going to give it a shot later this week. RDR2 has basically ruined every other game for me because of how beautiful and engrossing it is.

I'm anxiously awaiting reviews for Days Gone to go live tomorrow. Seems like the type of game that has solid gameplay systems across the board.
