I gave up on Doom 3 (2004) about 10 hours in once I realized I had yet another huge stretch of repetitive, poorly lit laboratory corridors ahead of me. 2016's installment confirmed that Doom works so much better as a chaotic, balls-to-the-wall shooter - and not a poorly executed attempt at atmospheric horror.
I gave up on Skyrim about 25 hours in once my character, an archer/ranger, was killing everything (except the occasional dragon) with a single shot. It felt so unrewarding.
I gave up on Cuphead once I realized I was fucking awful at classic platformers, and my reaction time/pattern recognition wasn't what it used to be.

Elden Ring. I beat it a while back and have started a new game with my OP player last night, and I cannot get into it anymore. I don't imagine playing this game anymore for at least a year, if ever. I guess it just feels like the magic and mystery, which was what was so entrancing about it before, is all gone.

I was heading in to complete another run. There are apparently multiple ways to beat the game and surely many things I didn't do or see. It felt exciting, and then I started playing and lost all interest after about 20 minutes. So, I set out to do something and then I quit. Maybe when I tire of Madden I'll start a new game with a new character so I'm not so over powered.

Water levels can be cool. Or at least levels with an aquatic element. Like the classic Tomb Raider games -- trying to navigate submerged temple ruins without drowning was pretty intense.
