There was an article recently praising a grandpa who has beaten over 300 games. I thought to myself, "is that a hallowed number? Is that a magic number?" What should be considered a major milestone number?

How many games have you beaten?

A ton of old school adventure games and 8-bit video games. Very few outside of that.

I've never even thought to calculate a number. Maybe the 300-399 range? No idea.

I counted mine up. I excluded sports, racing, fighting, MMOs, and most mobile games. I excluded games only beat in co-op.

I was guessing in the 350 range for myself prior to the count. I was way off.

I have no idea, but I do remember being excited as a kid finishing my best friend's sister's copy of The Little Mermaid on the NES.

This would take a while to figure out.

Are we talking absolutely 100% complete or just beating the game?

Example: All 900 korok seeds in Zelda?

I’m honestly really bad at finishing campaigns I start, so my number likely isn’t that huge.

Excluding racing/sports games, I'm guessing 200-299. I just spent close to an hour trying to write down every one i could think of (and referencing my PS collection online) and got to 150. There are loads of PS2 and PS3 ones i can't remember, plus plenty of NES/SNES/N64/PC ones that escape me too.

Probably 120. 60 of them on the 8 bit NES and 60 since. Zeldas and Mario’s alone account for 20 of those.

Quite a few on the GameCube. That was my personal golden age of gaming where I was a young adult with a real job and real money but no kids: Eternal Darkness, Timesplitters 2, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Windwaker, Sunshine, Starfox Adventures, SSX Tricky, Tony Hawk 3, Splinter Cell, Resident Evil...what a great time to be alive!

I’mma say under 50. For now. May make a list at some point. May not. You’ll just have to wait and see.

I think it’s unfortunate that your personal golden age fell during the time of the game cube.

I don’t. It was the time of the couch co-op. One of my best and oldest friends is due to that.

It really was the golden age of couch co-op. Dreamcast, XBOX and GameCube were the first consoles with 4 controller ports. Subsequent generations focused on online co-op (and many games don't even have local co-op). Lots of good times on the couch.
