Fifth all time in passing yards and TDs, two-time league leader in yards, eight time pro-bowler. On the other hand, basically zero post-season success. I bet he gets in.

He would probably get in based on the cumulative stats alone, but he's also in the top 15 all-time in like every per category as well. PFHOF tends to be a bit "wider" than other HOFs, too, so I don't think he'll be docked for his playoff success.

Yeah I don't think he'll get left out. I never thought of him as particularly great though.

Matt Ryan feels like a good comp for Rivers.

I think in different ways both Rivers and Ryan were very good but never great. If I had to guess I would say that Rivers form of being good-not-great gets him into the HOF, Ryan's does not (at the moment). But they're easily a step down from Brees, Brady, Manning, and Rogers.

neither elevates their team to another level. just look at all the up and down seasons the falcons go through now, and the ones the chargers went through with rivers under center.

I'd argue both had to deal with pretty shitty front offices/management. Rivers had a year with the #1 offense ruined because they literally couldn't get a long snap off half the time. Just brutal.

Rivers is top 5 all time in big categories and second in most consecutive games started. If the rest of his teams were ever top five, he’d have a ring. I hate when people place championship win as the defining category. Dilfer didn’t lead his team to theirs. Big Nick Dick totally did, but he’s not a hall of famer. Bradshaw has 4, but with equal talent around them, you’d rather have Rivers be your guy. To me, if you finish top ten in multiple major statistical categories or you win multiple Super Bowls (can’t be a fluke), you should be automatically in.
