I guess this is what I get for dipping my toe into the sports forum...
I said from the beginning that the E vs B argument is very one-sided, and it's been this way from the beginning. Everyone discredits E because of his surrounding cast, and B did it all alone with no other real talent on the field, but then @Skitch made the case that the Lions had a great receiving core. Didn't that spread the defense out to help Barry? No one ever makes that case.
Also from the beginning, I said I was biased as a homer, and that E is my all time favorite player. I also pointed to the durability of E vs B, and @Skitch tried to discredit this point too... Barry could have been the undisputed GoaT, but he QUIT at the top of his game. Sure, the shelf life of a RB is shorter than Barry's career, but RB's don't quit just because like B did. He was not hurt or old... He flat out QUIT!
You said this thread inspired you to watch Barry highlights... did you watch the link to the Emmitt video I provided? It was basically my case in point for why my opinion is what it is... Heart and perseverance go a long way with me, and you can throw stats at me and rationalize Emmit's inferiority to Barry all day long, but Emmitt's performances and stats speak for themselves. It's the intangibles and watching him closely in Dallas, as a huge Cowboys fan, in my formidable years that puts him over the top for me personally.
@Skitch: No one else is disagreeing with you, and I concded your point about the WR core way earlier. Why don't you give it a rest, FFS?!
EDIT: ok, well I guess Bada agrees with me now. Interestingly, as a Giants fan, he no doubt saw Emmitt put on the single greatest performance by a RB first hand on Jan 2, 1994.
