So I'm sitting in my room tonight working on some music/looking at pictures of Maia Mitchell on the internet, when my roommate knocks on my door. Annoyed, I get up to see what she wants.
“Yeah?”
“Uh, there's two dudes at the door for you.”
“What? That can't be right. The only dude who knows where I live is my brother, and he's at work.”
“I think they work at Casey's.”
“Casey's? The restaurant in the Magic Kingdom where they all dress like old baseball players?”
“Yeah.”
“Ok, I'll be there in a second.”
I don't know anyone who works at Casey's, so I'm pretty skeptical. I make my way to front door, where I see two shadowy figures.
“Can I help you?”
“Yeah, would you mind stepping out here?”
Hesitantly, I step out into the corridor. As I walked into the well-lit area, I was taken aback.
“Who are you guys?”
“You know who we are,” said the first dude.
“Yeah. Don't be stupid.”
They were right. I mean, I think they were. It was obviously Warren Spahn and Jackie Robinson, or at least two guys who looked exactly like them.
“Umm...aren't you guys dead?”
“That's not important,” said the Spahn looking dude.
“Yeah,” said the Jackie Robinson looking guy. “But this is.”
He handed me a big Western Union envelope, like the one at the end of Back to the Future II.
“What is this?”
“Just read it,” said Spahn guy.
“Yeah, read it. We're out of here.”
I stood there, kinda stunned, as I watched the two guys walk towards the stairway.
“Like I was saying though, that Chris Sale cat is fucking good,” the Spahn guy said to the maybe-Jackie dude as they slowly faded into the ether.
I went back inside, shut the door, and headed to my room. I sat on my bed, and opened the telegram. It read as follows...
“LAMENT-
IT'S TIME.
REGARDS,
CHUD”
So, I can only assume it's time for the Integration Era (1947-1968) Baseball Tournament. So start signing up. And start doing your homework. Cause this one is probably gonna be hard.
This tournament will include all seasons from 1947-1968. The links to our previous tournaments for those who aren't familiar with all of this are below.
1. There will be 25 rounds of picks. Each team needs at least 12 position players (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, three OFs, and four utility players of any position as designated by the site) and 6 pitchers.
2. A player can only appear on one team, even though you ultimately decide on a single season for them. So for instance, whoever picks Bob Gibson gets whichever Integration Era Gibson season he wants, and no one else can take a different one. You don't have to decide which season of theirs you want until we begin the tournament, though.
3. You need to pick and designate a home ballpark, since the site takes that into consideration in its simulations.
4. Each person has two hours to make their picks. The clock is suspended between 10PM & 8AM Eastern time. Picks can still be made in that window, but people whose clocks start AFTER 10 can't be skipped until the clock starts again (If you are on the clock before 10, even if it is 9:59, you will be skipped after two hours). We do still strongly encourage you to send a few proxy picks to someone who isn't picking again until after you before you head to bed.
5. If your turn comes up and you're still on the hook for a previous pick where your time ran out, you'll receive a one hour slot instead of two. If you're on the hook for two picks and your turn comes up a third time, you'll be skipped instantly till you return and pick. Once you catch up, you're back to the standard two hours. This means if you have bookend picks (at either end) and you don't pick by the time your two hours are up for the first one, you get another hour (for your second one) before you are completely skipped over.
SEASON GUIDELINES:
1. We will have a regular season before the tournament. Everyone will play everyone else six times, three times at home and three times on the road.
2. The playoffs will be best-of-seven series. We will use the same rules about pitching rotations/rest as we did in the Post-Strike tournament. You will have the option to start someone on two games' rest twice during the playoffs. You will have the option to do it four times during the regular season as well (where the same three games' rest rule applies). A pitcher CANNOT start on two games' rest in consecutive starts. He needs a full three games before he can start again after starting on short rest. Rotations will reset at the All-Star break and the start of the playoffs.
3. The top four teams in the standings at the end of the season will make the playoffs. Tie-breakers for the fourth spot will be settled via play-in game. These games are considered part of the regular season, so pitchers in them are subjected to regular season rest restrictions. Tie-breakers for the other spots will be based on head-to-head record. If the teams split their meetings, the tie will be broken by whoever had the better record against the highest seeded team overall (this will carry down in the standings until the tie is broken).
