Might as well get the ball rolling on this. It could be the one thing that delays RM's imminent implosion. This one will include all seasons from 1969-1994. The draft will start on Monday, the 26th. The regular season will be 54 games long, with everyone playing everyone else six times (three at home, three on the road). The top four teams will qualify for the playoffs. Links to the last two tournaments, for those who are interested in what we do, but haven't fielded a team yet... Post-Strike Tournament : http://forums.theskyiscrape.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4441 2014 All-Time Franchise Tournament: http://forums.theskyiscrape.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4546 Let's start the slow thaw, fellows... DRAFT GUIDELINES:
SEASON GUIDELINES: 1. We will have a regular season before the tournament. Everyone will play everyone else six times, three times at home and three times on the road. 2. The playoffs will be best-of-seven series. We will use the same rules about pitching rotations/rest as we did in the Post-Strike tournament. You will have the option to start someone on two games' rest twice during the playoffs. You will have the option to do it four times during the regular season as well (where the same three games' rest rule applies). A pitcher CANNOT start on two games' rest in consecutive starts. He needs a full three games before he can start again after starting on short rest. Rotations will reset at the All-Star break and the start of the playoffs. 3. The top four teams in the standings at the end of the season will make the playoffs. Tie-breakers for the fourth spot will be settled via play-in game. These games are considered part of the regular season, so pitchers in them are subjected to regular season rest restrictions. Tie-breakers for the other spots will be based on head-to-head record. If the teams split their meetings, the tie will be broken by whoever had the better record against the highest seeded team overall (this will carry down in the standings until the tie is broken). chud, I'm not sure if you saw it mentioned in the other thread, but for winning the Franchise tournament you get second choice of your draft slot (Skitch gets first choice for winning the Post-Strike tournament, numbers offered to take third choice since you kept the stats for the Red Sox). Everyone else will have theirs assigned randomly. |

I would like to play. My only apprehension is that I may not have the time to commit. Approximately how much time should it take to run a respectable team? |

As long as you can be around enough for the draft, you should be able to be competitive. Once the season starts, some people are very hands on with their teams and shuffle their line-ups and rotations quite a bit. Others just set them each once and roll with it for the course of the season. It's really up to you. |

I'd like to keep the sign up and discussion/preparation open for a bit. I think when we start drafting we'll do it on a Monday (maybe the 19th?). We use a very short time window (I'll have to check to see what it was last time) before you get skipped for your pick. Since everyone who participates is within the same few time zones though, we suspend the clock overnight so you can't get skipped between like midnight and eight AM (though if you're up and you want to make your pick, you can). Once we get to the late rounds, we make the clock even shorter. If I remember correctly, the last draft went unbelievably smoothly and pretty quickly considering we were each drafting 25 players. |

You can also send a list of potential picks to someone else to make for you if you're not going to be around for a little bit. |

I think my draft strategy will be to stock up on Royals. |
