they went undefeated without gronkowski

I've heard some pretty plausible theories about the Pats maybe cutting ties with Gronk, but I think at this point they've got to hang onto him in case Brady suddenly dries up--he'd be a nice safety blanket for a young QB, even with how injury prone he is.

not sure they'll cut ties, but they need to bring in a viable alternative next year. i don't know how much more football gronk's body can take.

What they owe him next year vs. the cap hit for cutting him is about the same. So they'll keep him next year. It's the following year that gets interesting.

Why he could win 2 more? He's got literally nothing else to live for.

Being Tom Brady must be depressing as hell.

When you're Kevin Youkilis but you get to be in Brady family photos:

Someone stole Brady's game jersey from the locker room last night.

It looks like the Pats are going to let Hightower walk. That's a head-scratcher.

I would hope that Hightower's visit to the Jets, upcoming visit to the Steelers, and anywhere else, yields high intelligence on AFC/NFC foes for the Pats.

From what I'm reading, it's sounding like Hightower is getting other teams to bid for what the Patriots will ultimately will pay him. But I could be easily wrong about that guess.

He left Pitt without a contract.

Hightower is staying. Not so sure about Butler. I'd be inclined to keep him for this year, at least. But I'm not Bill. The guy just shows no emotion when it comes to the roster.

Hightower signed. 4 years 43.5 reported.

I've got to imagine that if Butler isn't traded, he's going to hold out.

Very happy with the Hightower signing. You're going to need that solid core of the defense with the newcomers and the people who are going.

At this point, if Bill has basically decided he's not signing Butler to a long term deal, it's better to get Cooks for him now rather than just watch him walk away in a year(or less if he holds out half the season.)

Draft pick(s) for Butler and resigning Hightower. I would take that.
